After a string of well-received releases on PUNK FUNK, GROUND LEVEL, RE:CONNECT, CONTROL BREAKS, BIJOU BEATS , ‘AMPLIFY‘ is the debut album by STYLUS REX: a continuously mixed set of eight carefully crafted dancefloor tracks, bass-driven tech-funk beats and late-night soundscapes.
Background – Stylus Rex has worked with STEVE LOVELL (BLUR, JULIAN COPE), DAN CAREY (HOT CHIP, LA ROUX) AND YOUTH (THE VERVE, KILLING JOKE), Stylus Rex got his introduction to the underground beats scene in 1998 when one of his bands was signed to the London based DUST II DUST records (the then parent label of SUNDAY BEST RECORDINGS).
Was resident at Brixton club ‘THE JUNCTION’, with sets at MINISTRY OF SOUND, HEAVEN, RHYTHM FACTORY, SPECTRUM, BABALOU/MASS, THE FRIDGE and THE CROSS.
Stylus Rex self-released his first 12″ single, BOOMSTICK, in 2005. The first full Stylus Rex release, ‘BLATANT‘, was championed by JDS on his PUNK FUNK imprint in early 2006.
Amplify is the work of an artist who instinctively understands the needs of a sweaty, peaktime dancefloor, but gets a thrill from giving them something they weren’t expecting. A longplayer to lose yourself in, time and again, because each sound has been carefully sculpted, and attention paid to every detail. A dense, swirling and visceral body of work. The Stylus Rex sound is about to amplify.
